Library Column for January 26, 2024

@ Your Library

Icebox Days are in full swing. Stop by the library tomorrow and join us in playing board games from 10 am – 2 pm. All ages are welcome, but children under 8 need to be accompanied by an adult.

As winter weather settles over us remember that the library can help you thrive. We have an assortment of board games and puzzles to keep you busy on cold winter nights to allow for breaks in reading. But we also have things to encourage outdoor activities. We have snowshoes and cross-country skis. We thank the Polar Polers for maintaining the many miles of ski trails in the area. Borrow a pair of our skis and get outside and enjoy getting out into the woods and exercising. Skis and snowshoes need to be reserved at least a day ahead of time and can be borrowed for a week.

As we finish up the first month of 2024, here’s a look ahead to the shortest month of the year that often feels like the longest and this year is a day longer. The Friends of the Library book sale will be Wednesday, February 7th from 5 – 7 pm.  All sales are by donation with proceeds benefiting the Friends support of library programming.

Storytime continues on Thursday mornings at 10:30 am with February themes being dinosaurs, families, friends, colors and shapes. Storytime is aqbout 30 minutes of stories, rhymes and more followed by about 30 minutes of free play with our early learning toys. Any child under age 6 is welcome to attend with their caregiver with the books and activities focused on ages 3 – 4.

It has been a while since we tried a different time for sharing stories, but we’ve had some requests so we will try a monthly Saturday storytime at 10:30 am on February 10th and continue on the 2nd Saturday of the month through May. It will be a repeat of the Thursday storytime. If you are unable to attend the Thursday morning storytime, we’d love to have you join us the second Saturday of the month for storytime fun. Spread the word, this will only be able to continue if families attend.

Crafting time is held every other Tuesday from 11 – 1 pm and will be held on February 13 and 27. Bring whatever crafty/art project you are working on and get two hours of work time and a chance to talk and get advice or help when stuck. A great group of ladies have been meeting since the fall and enjoy sharing knowledge, patterns and ideas.

We saw an idea on social media this month and thought we’d give it a try here. Join us on the second Monday of the month for a Quiet book club, beginning Monday, February 12th from 6:30 – 8. We’ll provide hot beverages, and some kind of treat. Bring whatever you’re currently reading. We’ll spend about 30 minutes talking then have an hour for quiet reading in our comfy chairs.
