Saturday storytime will be on Saturday, November 14th at 10:30 am with Olivia sharing stories about bears. Join us for a wonderful collection of stories, rhymes and more followed by play time with early learning toys.
Monday, November 9th from 5:30 – 7:30 we will host Arn Kind and his presentation about American Revolution soldiers. This will be an interactive, delightful program for anyone interested in history ages 10 and up. The program is made possible with funding from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and sponsored by the Arrowhead Library System. We have hosted several presentations by Arn Kind and we always appreciate his breadth of knowledge and enthusiasm for his topics.
The library will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans’ Day. Regular library hours are Monday – Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am – 6 pm and Saturday 10 am – 3 pm.
Hunting season is here and The Greatest Hunting Stories Ever Told edited by Vin T. Sparano is an excellent collection of readable stories by some of the greatest storytellers. This would be a wonderful collection to take to the shack and take turns reading aloud your favorite stories.
Gary Paulsen has written several wilderness books and Hatchet is one of the best. If you’ve never read it, or it has been years, this would be another great book to enjoy sharing at the shack.
Dana Stabenow is the author of Hunter’s Moon which takes place in Alaska with a murderous group of hunters. Hunting season means family gatherings but for one group it also means murder.
A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold is a wonderful look at early conservation efforts. While The Green Hills of Africa by Ernest Hemingway is a classic that would be fun to read and imagine that you’re in Africa hunting elephants and lions instead of northern Minnesota hunting deer and grouse.
Kids might enjoy Keven Lovegreen and his series of titles about hunting including Whitetail Adventures while The Hunter’s Code by Jake Maddox will give readers much to think about. And if you prefer to leave the hunting stories at home while out hunting then stop by the library and ask us for other recommendations. Don’t forget to stop by and look at our library of things that might help you this fall.
And if you don’t hunt, stop by and see us for recommendations you might like to read. We love sharing what we’re reading and what might interest you.
