Staff in the Falls School District are out-reading the students in summer reading! Can the students catch up by tracking the days they read at least 20 minutes? Each time a student reads at least twenty minutes for twenty days they can come in and pick out a free book.
There are some great new books to enjoy this summer. Middle school students will love Be Prepared by Vera Brosgol. In fact, anyone who has felt like a misfit will enjoy this book about not fitting in.
Animal lovers will find lots to lean and enjoy in The Truth about Dolphins by Maxwell Eaton, a great book ‘without a porpoise,’ Sharks: Nature’s perfect hunter by Joe Flood, another book in the Science Comics series or Snails are just my speed! by Kevin McCloskey for a great easy reader with cool facts.
Artistic kids will enjoy working with Think and Make Like an Artist by Claudia Boldt for projects encouraging their imaginations and finding inspiration wherever they are, Adventures in Cartooning by James Sturm is a great introduction to cartooning, The Girl who Drew Butterflies by Joyce Sidman looks at how an artist changed science or Fairy Spell: how two girls convinced the world that fairies are real by Marc Tyler Nobleman as an incredible example of the imagination.

Two contemporary sports stories include Sunny by Jason Reynolds about a runner dealing with a death and Point Guard by Mike Lupica about a girl wanting to play on the boys’ team. Liesl Shurtliff, author of Rump, Jack and Red returns with another fairy tale adaptation called Grump a ‘fairly true tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.’

The three books are Grilled Cheese and Dragons, Worse, Worser and Wurst and Bad Moooove! all by Nancy Krulik.
