We know fall is progressing quickly when we are already at MEA weekend. Enjoy the long weekend and make sure you have enough reading to get you through the whole weekend. We can recommend lots of great options so stop in and see us.
Or try one of these titles about fall. First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen continues the story of the Waverly women ten years after Garden Spells. An elderly man shows up with a suitcase worth of stories that could mean trouble. But they have enough trouble without outsiders causing more. Lauryn Harper Falls Apart by Shauna Robinson is for those overachievers who find their five year plans not coming together as they planned and need to commiserate with others. Those who like their fall stories to have a little more scare to them will find Harvest House by Cynthia Leitich Smith more than meets that need. Spirits, ghouls, creepy men and more abound in this fall offering. And if you like your spook on audio, borrow The Icebox Theater presents “The Fall of the House of Usher” and other stories on compact disc. This is just one of the several titles the library has of this local group. We also have Dog Watch by Mary Casanova, adapted by Jeff Adams which would make a fun car trip listen.
This might also be a great weekend to make a trip to the Discovery Center in Chisholm. The library offers two passes providing free entry, each is good for up to 2 adults and 8 kids. Stop by the library before heading out of town and see if a pass is available.
The library’s Library of Things has a number of useful items as we approach hunting season. You can borrow an induction cook plate kit which includes a pot and pan. Our Wonderbags work like a crockpot, but don’t require additional power once you bring your pot to a boil. So start your meal, put it in the wonderbag, go away for the day and come back to a cooked meal. And if you are looking to process your own meat, borrow our meat grinder to see if you really want to process an entire animal before purchasing your own grinder.
Tuesday, October 27th at 2:30 pm the library hosts “Get Your Ducks in a Row” Advance Planning by Kristin Parendo, lead Elder Law attorney at Justice North. During this two hour program you will learn the essentials of advance directives, get the necessary forms and guidance in filling them out. Registration is requested by the presenter so either call the library and let us know you want to attend or look for the poster and scan the QR code to register.
For years, the library has subscribed to the Ft. Frances Times and many of you have faithfully come and read it. We no longer have a subscription to the paper as they no longer have a way of getting it to us in a timely manner.
