@ Your Library

Summer reading starts in ten days! We are just about ready for the razzle, dazzle of magicians and dinosaurs and so much more this summer.  Tuesday, June 3rd at 10:00 am Brodini will kick off our summer with a dynamic, comedic magic show! All ages are welcome to come and enjoy a magical start to the summer.

Wednesday, June 4th our weekly programs will begin with Libratory each week at 11:00 am. Elementary students are welcome to come and spend approximately 45 minutes creating, learning and exploring the world of science. No registration necessary, but regular attendance is encouraged so no one misses out on some great experiments and exciting fun.

Thursday, June 5th storytime begins for the summer at 10:30 am. Outside on the south lawn of the library when the weather permits. We will explore books, rhymes and more each week for about 40 minutes. All ages are welcome with the focus on children ages 3 – 5 and their caregivers.

Friday, June 6th Big Play returns from 10:30 – noon each Friday morning. Kids learn so much by playing that we want to encourage them to get outside and play. We’ll provide a variety of activities each week and let kids ages 10 and under explore and discover together how things work, use their imaginations to play together and encourage the adults in their lives to play and explore with them.

The Friends of the Library book sale will be Friday, June 7th from 11 am – 1 pm. Families are encouraged to check out the used books available for all ages to keep everyone reading and learning this summer. All sales are by donation and provide the Friends funds to support library programming.

Summer is a great time to allow your child to explore many different kinds of reading and books. Let them borrow old favorites, discover new genres or explore new topics they are curious about. Talk to staff for recommendations or just let them explore the junior room and borrow whatever appeals to them. We are all unique and what makes great reading for one, another will find boring, so help your child to discover what they would enjoy. The important part is to read regularly all summer long. The reading portion of our summer programming is to complete challenges and earn free books. All ages can play and free books are earned with the completion of four challenges, up to eight free books this summer.

Make it a family challenge. Who can complete all thirty-two challenges and earn all eight books? Help one another by making suggestions of books and activities and reminding each other to keep reading.  The reading challenge is on the back page of the summer brochure that should have gone home with all students at the end of the school year. Additional brochures are available in the library along with our one page summary calendar of all the events happening at the library this summer.
