Director’s Report

September circulation was disappointing, we are now down 4% for the year compared to last year. Only a few kids/families took advantage of our youth fine waivers in September. Storytime attendance has been about 20 each week. We have cancelled The Super Awesome Library Club and are talking with Community Education and 4-H staff to see if we can partner with them in some manner.

Old Business:

Upcoming programs include storytime each week, except Thursday, October 26th when The Duluth Playhouse Kids Theater will present “Imaginarium: Superheroes.” Lorna Landvik will speak on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00 pm. Carpeting is scheduled to be replaced on the south half of the main floor beginning Friday, November 10 and continuing November 13 and 14. No word from the county on the budget.

The Knudson Grant has been submitted and work has started on the ARAC grant. I need biographical information from each board member for the grant. Final deadline for the ARAC grant is October 27.

New Business:

It has been difficult to get the public interested in –in-house created programming at specific times. So staff will focus on ‘stealth programming.’ Programming that we can have out in the library and people can interact with it at any time.

Friends of the Library book sale, October 20, noon – 2 pm

Ted is reading The Complete Reti a chess manual, Darcy’s reading Saint Mazie by Jami Attenberg, MaryJo is reading As Good As It Gets by Isabel Sharpe, Lindsi is reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Diane’s reading Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown, John is reading Marcia Clark’s Guilt By Association, Dick is reading The Girl in the Spider Web by David Lagercrantz and Paul is reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Crossing.
