Library Column for September 5, 2025

@ Your Library

Welcome to fall, at least the start of fall season with school starting, fall sports kicking off and more. And the rush to complete construction projects before the snow flies. The library parking lot is being included in those end of season projects. We don’t specific dates at this time, but expect our parking lot to be closed for a week or two while they fix the concrete in front of the main doors and repave the lot.

Our entrance during this time will be off the courtyard (what some still refer to as the main entrance). There will be no handicap access during this time, if you need assistance to get materials, or other services, please call us and we’ll see what we can do to assist you. We know it will be inconvenient, but it is so needed. So please bear with us as we improve our entrance.

Saturday hours will start tomorrow, Saturday, September 6. We will be open from 10 am – 3pm. Come learn to play a new game about clouds from 11 am – 1 pm and just spend some time hanging out and talking at the library.

Crafters’ Café will meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, September 9 and 23 from 11am – 1pm. Anyone interesting in having time to just sit and work on projects is welcome to bring their project (Christmas projects are great) and enjoy a hot beverage and good conversation.

Wednesday, September 10th we have the unique opportunity to host a program sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF). Please register to take a 2.5 hour class on basket weaving with Erika LeMay. We have two time slots, either 1 – 3:30pm or 5-7:30 pm. Room is limited, so please call 218-283-8051 or stop by the library to register for a spot.

Coming this fall is storytime on Thursday mornings at 10:30 beginning Thursday, September 11. Our first theme of the season will be family. We all have them and it is a great way to start the storytime year. Anyone ages 6 and under is welcome to bring their adult and enjoy stories, rhymes and more for about 30 minutes followed by about 30 minutes playing with our early childhood STEAM toys.

We are continuing Saturday storytime on the second Saturday of the month. Saturday, September 13th at 10:30 am will be the first one of the fall with stories about family. Generally, the Saturday storytime is a repeat of the theme from Thursday.

Join us on Monday, September 15th at 6:30pm for a presentation on climate history on Easter island as Candace Gossen shares her Ph.D. research. Teens and adults will enjoy the presentation and slides of her time on the island.

Next week we’ll finish up the September calendar of events and the next reading challenge. We have so many programs at the library this fall. Join us!
