I hope you had plenty of reading material for the cold weather. I know I ran out one evening and was ‘forced’ to read a book from my shelves. It was a book I’d just been given, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. But oh, the thought of running out of books to read. Here are some graphic novels to read and share with the children in your life.
Goofy, fun easy reading graphic novel is Cabin Head and Tree Head by Scott Campbell. Imagine if every thing you could imagine had a body, could talk and move what might happen. That is the basic premise of this silly story in which best friends cabin and tree say ‘hellos,’ paint portraits, dig holes, hide, get haircuts and say ‘good-bye.’ Max a little Axolotl by Joey Spiotto is a another new graphic novel that explores, being the new kid, friendship, change and provides facts about axolotls all in one short book.
Do you have a kid who loves dragons or fairies and would love to be able to raise their own dragon? Dragon Kindred by Sarah Mensinga is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel about a young girl who really, really wants to raise a dragon and be a dragon kindred even though it is rare if your parents aren’t dragon kindred. She has read the books, learned the skills and is just waiting for the fairies to bring her a dragon egg. Will she get the chance to raise a dragon?
If thrillers are more your cup of tea, then try Everyone is Lying to You by Jo Piazza. This novel combines trad wives, internet influencers with murder as the cutthroat world of social media is explored by Lizzie, a struggling magazine writer, who reconnected with a high school friend just before she goes missing. Read a locked door mystery in With a Vengeance by Riley Sager. Actually a thirteen hour train trip fro Philadelphia to Chicago which Anna has spent twelve years planning to destroy the six people who destroyed her family, but then a murder happens and can Anna get her plan back on track? Or explore The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime Writer by Ragnar Jonasson. Whatever you read, have fun as you explore new and different titles.
