@ Your Library
Hope your Christmas celebrations were merry and bright and that you got books to carry you into the new year! If not, the library is open Friday from 10 -6 and Saturday from 10 – 3. Elementary students need to remember to read over the holiday break so that they can earn their prize for the winter reading program. Stop in and borrow a book or two to get you through the holiday season.
Did you tackle our 2025 (or 2024) reading challenges? We have a new challenge for 2026. More details to come next week, but know that we are here to encourage your reading habit and encourage you to find new authors and new books to read and explore. The library is a very good place for me to work as I tend to be a serendipitous reader, picking up titles that strike my fancy and reading them. I am going to try and be a bit more deliberate with my titles in 2026. I usually have 3 – 5 books going at a time, a general fiction, a genre fiction, a library professional title, a non-fiction and a faith based title.
I enjoyed The Pleasures of Wintering by Erin Niimi Longhurst which talks about the benefits of slowing down to allow creativity to flourish. This month I also finished the Mur Lafferty science fiction series (only 3 books so far) ‘Midsolar Murders.’ These futuristic murder mysteries are light, fluffy, fun reads to distract. I then distracted myself with Christmas mysteries, The Christmas Appealby Janice Hallett – ‘one Christmas play, one dead Santa, everyone’s a suspect.’ I haven’t read any M.C. Beaton even though we have a number of fans at the library, so I also gave Kissing Christmas Goodbye a try as several list of holiday titles said this was a fine place to jump into the series.
We still have paper magazines, but digital ones are available through the Libby app. Whether you enjoy Guns-n-Ammo, The Smithsonian, Canada’s History or People Magazine, we have copies you can borrow. And when you visit the Libby app, don’t forget to check out the audiobooks to download and have available anytime you have a few minutes to listen. Exercising to audiobooks is highly recommended, so if you have a New Year’s resolution to exercise more, take an audiobook along to keep you moving.
Looking for a place to relax, sit at the library with a good book, a cup of tea or coffee and a treat (at least through Wednesday). Don’t let winter get you down. Come sit under our full-spectrum light as you read and see if a little extra light in your life helps revive your spirits. If it does, then borrow one of our little full-spectrum lights for a couple of weeks.
The library will close at 5pm on Wednesday, December 31 and be closed on Thursday, January 1. Regular hours resume on January 2 and 3. Happy New Year one and all!
