Library Column for November 14, 2025

@ Your Library

Hope your hunting season is going well. Sure wish someone could pick off a few of the deer in town. They ate our carved pumpkin before Halloween. Stop by the library and get audiobooks, movies and games for evenings at the shack.

We received a very generous donation of brand new games from USApopoly in honor of November being National Games Month. We now have Flip 7, Tacta, Blank Slate and Hues and Cues. All four games are great family games and could be fun party games. We also received Tapple and Telestration which we already own, so they were given away as prizes at our last game day. Watch for additional games days on various Saturdays.

Do you struggle during this time of year? Does the dark, cold and/or gray get you down? Then borrow one of our full-spectrum lights and see if light therapy helps. We also have a full-spectrum light that can be used in the building, so if you do better getting out of the house, come to the library and read under our light here in the building and get some social time as well. Try Wintering by Katherine May or How to Winter by Kari Liebowitz for books that might give you other ideas for coping with winter.

If you need encouragement to get those Christmas craft projects done then join us on Tuesday, November 25th from 11 am – 1 pm. Crafters of all sorts are welcome to join us the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays for dedicated time to work on craft projects of any sort. Beverages are provided and sometimes treats too. A very welcome group that loves to socialize while crafting. Come join us.

During November we have a bird scavenger hunt available on the main floor and a dinosaur scavenger hunt available in the junior room. Come spend time at the library searching for birds or dinosaurs as you look for books to read.

The library is again getting books on a regular basis. Our longtime book vendor went out of business in October and we went about six weeks without getting any new books. I am hopeful that we have a new vendor and will again be ordering and receiving books regularly. If you were waiting for a new release this fall, double check with us and make sure we caught the titles you’ve been waiting for. I think we were able to order all the requested titles from the new vendor, but we were scrambling trying to piece together what we’d ordered and what had shipped and what was canceled.

Artists, are you interested in displaying at the library? We’ve had several interested nibbles, but most say they aren’t ready yet. So, if you have a handful of paintings (as few as five and as many as 25 or 30) and would like to display for a couple of months at the library stop by and talk to me about dates and when you’re work would be available.
