Up, Up and Away!

The Swing by Robert Louis Stevenson

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside —

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown —
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

During storytime this week we explored the concept of flight. We read stories about planes, birds, and even learned about direction. For our craft this week, we will make a paper airplane and a straw rocket. Stop by the library to get your bag of supplies. We’ve even thrown in a toy airplane or two.

And when you have built them, you can try launching them from a swing at the park!
