Director’s Report

August circulation was better than July, year to date circulation is 2% below year to date in 2016. Approximately 50 attended the summer reading picnic. Thanks to Ted for helping. Ten attended the Walt Whitman program. So far no attendees for the Super Awesome Library Club. Storytime will resume tomorrow. Knudson grant application has been started. It is due October 1. ARAC grant is due October 27th. Jenna Wright has resigned and schedule is being reworked. Caleb took a couple of weeks off for vacation, ended up being very good timing as the catalog was undergoing an authority project and no changes could be made to the records.

Old Business:

Upcoming programs include storytime which will start tomorrow. We will continue to try the Super Awesome Library Club through the end of the month. Latin American Music will be the focus of a program with Kathy and Leo Lara on Monday, September 25th at 6:00 pm. The 2018 budget will most likely go through as requested according to the city administrator. The city council did a resolution asking the county for more library funding to support the usage by non-city residents. September is National Library Card month and the Arrowhead Library System early literacy committee is asking all libraries to consider waiving fines for youth and providing the new kids library card for free.

New Business:

With the resignation of Jenna Wright we have a part-time position open, but with my scheduled vacation for much of November we don’t have time to post the opening, hire and train before I am gone for three weeks. We have two teen sisters who use the library lots and have volunteered for us on several occasions. They are interested in sharing the one 14 hour/week position. Katy and Elly Nelson will each work one evening a week and then one set of Friday/Saturday shifts per month. I can start training them now and have them up to speed by November.

Friends of the Library book sale, September 27, 3 – 5 pm
